Embrace Peace!

Suppose a list of items or things which abundance is at its worst in the modern age was to be made, among the items topping the list besides that of endangered species like the white rhino would be peace. Peace in its respect can be likened to salt, whose absence is most felt rather than its presence which is more often than not taken for granted.

The ushering of the new millennium was believed to be a beckon of peace; most people hoped that the world would be a better place if not safer to reside but that has remained just but a dream. Nations geared up against others and if that’s not enough invasions resulted and lives lost hence writing yet another chapter of bitterness in the world history books. The question to pose doesn’t the world get tired of this??? The pain and suffering seen in Africa, the Middle East and other places ought to be a concern for the whole world. What if we were to join hands together and help each other achieve tranquility, would it cost us much? That is a question to ponder upon.

The real change starts with us, as seen in the words of Mahatma Gandhi “be the change you want to see in the world”. It’s not only up to United Nations but also us. Peace is a personal responsibility that each and every inhabitant of planet earth should embrace. Our perception towards our neighbors, religion, socio-economic and political perspectives to life is to be governed well lest they result to hate that builds up to war. The Rwandan Genocide, Hiroshima-Nagasaki is but examples of acts of war where peace was at its lowest and the scars of those incidents haunt the world to date!

Dad, how do soldiers killing each other solve the world’s problems?” ― Bill Watterson, Calvin and Hobbes: Sunday Pages 1985-1995. Such words drives the mind upon a wheel of thoughts that war is not the only way to solve issues and that should sink into the heads of the leaders whose hunger for power is never satisfied. If peace was to be a dream then it is high time that the inhabitants of earth should dream one dream; then we all wake up and strive to validate our dream and maybe we shall usher in a period of time when we can comfortably boost that the world is indeed peaceful. I rest my case hoping that our hearts would embrace peace first and spread the same in the modern world.
